  • Our little munchkin turns 4 today, and I just can’t believe it.  It seems like yesterday my water broke and we were headed to the hospital.  I still remember the night you were born so vividly!  It’s been a while since I last journaled so I thought I would resurrect the blog with a little love note to my son for his birthday~

    Dearest Deacon,

Happy 4th birthday, buddy!  You’ve grown SO much and have had so many milestones this past year, I thought I would recount them for us to remember and celebrate.

It was just about a year ago, after your 3rd birthday, when we packed up our things and moved back down to LA from Seattle.  I’m pretty sure it was traumatizing to have so many changes happening within such a short span, but you’ve proven yourself to be resilient.  You take things in stride and are adaptable to your setting.  One thing I’ve noticed is that you’re content with what you have.  When we go to Target you always ask to see Star Wars toys and at the end of our shopping spree, you always return them back where they belong without asking for anything.

You met a new community at our beloved church, ANCC and have become acquainted with so many new aunties and uncles who are not so new anymore.  They love on you so much, but also keep you in check 😉  You love running into the sanctuary and make a beeline straight to your dad’s office.  You also love looking at all the instruments on stage after service, especially the drums.  Thankfully, the praise team doesn’t mind 😉  Maybe you’ll grow to be a drummer like your papa~  You also love roaming around and doing your own thing, which makes your mama nervous but it’s nice knowing someone’s always keeping an eye out for you on my behalf!

One of your biggest accomplishments this past year is that you finally got potty trained!  You probably could have learned earlier, but with the impending arrival of your baby sis, we were advised not to.  It didn’t come easy for you and you fought it at times, but I knew I didn’t want to rush you and that you would just get it in your own time.  This accomplishment led to another huge milestone for you and our family…

You started pre-school and you LOVE it.  You adore everything about school: teachers, newfound friends, music, art, bible study, bike yard, thing yard, snack, and the list goes on.  With a 2 year wait list, we weren’t sure where you would go, but we’re so thankful God opened doors for you to attend this one.  Plus, it didn’t hurt that your mama had some connections 😉  Everyone knows who you are and walk around campus like you’re a BAUS.  It makes my heart soar to see your first exposure to school be such a positive one.

You’ve made a new bestie at school, and it’s absolutely adorable seeing you two run around together, calling each other “best friends.”  I pray that you will grow to have a solid community of brothers around you, who will root for you and keep you accountable, and vice versa.

    Thanksgiving luncheon at school (11/2016)

Your verbal skills are growing and you are picking up some pretty funny language.  We love conversing with you and hearing all the imaginative ideas that are swirling inside your head.  You say some pretty hilarious things, and we love laughing with you.  We joke that you’re a pro at Konglish (a mash-up of Korean & English).

You have an infectious laugh and compassionate heart.  You are so tender hearted, a quality I love about you.  You can sense when I’m frustrated or upset and will ask me, “Umma are you happy?”  You love exploring and learning new games, but can get frustrated trying to figure things out.  Praying you learn patience and perseverance.  You randomly break out into song and start singing all your favorite melodies.  Curently, it’s “Let it Go” from Frozen 😀  One of my favorite things so far is that you love picking flowers on the street and hand them to me because you think I’m a princess (that’s my son~)

Play date at our local museum (10/2016)

I know it’s not always easy, but you’re learning how to be a brother to your sis, Devyn.  Thanks to you, she’s growing up to be one tough cookie.  You show affection towards her by sharing your toys with her and hugging/kissing her, but you also get into a zone and don’t always enjoy sharing your things with her.  It’s so cute when you try to show her to do things like climb up and down the stairs.  I pray that you will love on her and protect her, always.

    Devyn’s 1st Birthday (9/2016)

This past year you’ve stretched and challenged me as a mom—at times, more than I thought I could bear.  I know I fail you in so many ways as your mama, but how amazing is it that we have a Father that loves you more than we humanly can.  May you learn the love and grace of our Father at an early age, son.  I’m so grateful and humbled that He has entrusted you into our care.

Currently, you continue to be beyond extroverted, hate leaving a good party, love eating noodles anytime of the day (pho, ramen, nengmyun for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and crazy love all things Star Wars.  Here’s to year 4!!  Please be good to me 😉

    Happy 4th Birthday, Deacon!!

    Happy Eleven Months!
    august 3, 2016

I can’t believe we’re celebrating Devyn’s 1st birthday in exactly a month from today.  So much has changed in the year that she’s joined our family…it’s pretty crazy how God’s been moving in our lives.  We’re so thankful to have my parents around to help and for a church community that has welcomed us with open arms from day one.  There’s a lot going on until then though—3 weddings for our team and celebrating my 6 year anniversary with the hubs.  I anticipated how busy I would be and tried to plan things ahead of time, but it hasn’t been an easy feat with two kids and a husband who was out of town for the last 3 weeks.  Nevertheless, we’re excited to share this day with beloved family and friends~

David is finally back home (HALLELUJAH).  I have to admit, I underestimated the absence of his presence since my parents were around to help, but it just goes to show how hands-on he is with our family dynamic.  Deacon probably felt it the most, as I noticed him being extra sensitive.  It took me a while to realize that it was because he misses his papa (insert sad face).  Thank you for praying (and playing) with us + checking in with us, friends!! 🙂

A few highlights from month 11:

    • We drove up north as a family of 3 for the first time.  You slept like a champ and got to meet many of your cool aunties + friends.
    • We started baby led weaning, and it’s a crazy mess but it’s so fun watching you use your fine motor skills to eat.
    • Your mama is cutting down on the pumping seshes, which means no more mama’s milk for you in the next few weeks.  It’s been a good run, and I’m so thankful that you are a happy and healthy little babe!
    • You’re standing on your own unassisted for a few seconds at a time, but no steps yet!  You still have only two teeth…
    • We got to meet and play with so many aunties, friends, and cousins who love on you so much~ We’re so thankful to have such a wonderful community surrounding us!

    Happy Ten Months!
    july 3, 2016

Hope y’all have been keeping cool in this wicked heat!  We recently had a family staycation in Palm Springs last weekend with some good friends, and thank goodness for our in-house pool or else we would have melted in the desert heat~  What a great blessing it was to spend uninterrupted time with our family, but I’m looking forward to worshipping with our church family today!

This last month has been jam packed with lots of play dates and new beginnings for our family.  For one, Deacon started summer camp at a local church where he’ll be enrolled for preschool in the Fall.  He’s been enjoying every second of it and it’s so amazing to see him learn and grow academically, emotionally, and socially.  Even though he’s only gone for a few days throughout the week, I still miss him but not gonna lie…it’s been pretty nice having some alone time with Devyn while he’s off at camp.

A few highlights from month 10~

    • Your teeth have finally sprouted!!  Just your front two for now, but you love shoving everything into your mouth (especially your toys and hands).
    • You’re trying to stand unassisted and you are seriously so, so active.  You love to crawl in and around our dining room table, to little nooks and crannies, and many times I find you by our shoe collection (yuck).
    • We celebrated Father’s Day + your baptism with our ANC family.
    • We had many play dates with our OC friends + aunties (special thanks to Auntie PP, AP, & ZA for driving out to see us!)
    • Vacationed in Palm Springs for a staycation with our beloved friends, the Lee family.
    • Swam in the pool for the first time with your big bro!

    Happy 10 months, baby girl!!

This is my official out-of-office notice as I’ll be leaving for a short getaway sans bebes with some good girlfriends.  Huge thanks to the hubs for letting me spend some solo time before he heads out overseas for the next few weeks because this mama needs a break 😉 Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July tomorrow~

    Happy Nine Months!
    june 3, 2016

Can’t believe we’re in June you guys!!  We’re approaching our 6 month mark since our move down from Seattle and life has been a whirlwind.  Last month was so crazy I didn’t have time to write up my eight month post for Devyn so I’m having a hard time remembering all of her milestones.  David is currently prepping for his two week missions trip next month, and I’m a little nervous to be home alone with the kiddies without him.  Please pray for us (especially David as he leads his missions team)!!  This means lots of play dates and outings with my little ones while he’s gone to help pass the time.  Feel free to holler if you want to play with us 😉

We’ve made great strides in working with Deacon and I’m so proud that this little guy is fully potty trained now!  It was the cause of some major stress in our household, but I knew he’d eventually get it when he was ready.  The major motivation was that the summer camp he’s enrolled in wouldn’t accept children who aren’t fully potty trained, and man who knew it would be such a process?  From the training toilet to the real one to what do we do when we’re out in public??  Thankfully, he got it and I couldn’t be prouder of him.

We’re also planning a mini family vacay before David leaves for his missions trip, and I’m planning a solo trip with both kids to the Bay Area to visit some friends.  I’m super excited because the last time I went up north was to celebrate our 1st wedding anni.  I’m also trying to find snippets of time to plan Devyn’s 1st birthday here and there, but it’s taking a lot longer than I anticipated.  A part of me would rather go on a private vacation with my family to get away and decompress, but I think I’d regret it later on…what do y’all think??

Some month 9 highlights of our baby girl:

    • We celebrated Mother’s Day as a mama of two and feeling super blessed to have my little babes.
    • Your papa took you to your 8 month appointment (it was supposed to be a belated 6 month, but we procrastinated…oopsie).  You weighed in at 18lbs. 10oz. and are 28 1/4in. tall.
    • You are one active little lady!  You are sitting up unassisted, crawling everywhere around the house with a purpose, especially getting into your big bro’s toys (which he doesn’t seem to appreciate…yikes, but he’s learning to share and be better about it~).
    • You’re pulling yourself up and love, love to hold mama’s hands to stand on your itty bitty feet!  Deacon was nowhere near as active as you are at this age and he’s quite the rambunctious one now so we joke about how we’re afraid of what you’ll be like as a toddler…yikes again.
    • You’ve been learning all those fun Korean baby tricks taught by Grandpa Ahn and it’s too cute to see you learning and growing~
    • You sure do love eating your solids~ avos, broccoli, carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, squash, peas, pears, apples, and bananas.
    • We dropped your night feeding so you’re drinking your mama’s milk 4x a day and solids 3x a day.  I can’t wait to be done with the pumping, but I know I’ll miss playing a role in your growth and nutrition.
    • You still have no teeth 🙁
    • We celebrated Grandpa & Grandma Ahn’s birthdays + your buddy Heather’s birthday this month with lots of birthday cake!

Thanks to my buddy Joshie for letting me borrow your clothes 🙂

    Happy Seven Months!
    april 3, 2016

I can’t believe our little Devyn is seven months today.  I feel like I just had her and I wish I could stop time to soak in all her chubs, smiles, and drools.  She’s growing way too fast for this mama’s heart.  I feel like we’ve been going non-stop since moving down.  David’s been busy with ministry and I’ve been gearing up for my first wedding season since our move back to CA, which I’m super excited for!  We are so incredibly thankful for this season, albeit a busy time in our lives.  David and I have been making intentional efforts to decompress after work and spending quality time together as a family, but also as a couple.  Tomorrow, we’ll be going down to SD to have a family day!  I’m redeeming some free tickets to Sea World and planning to stop by one of our fav coffee shops’ SD location + eating some good ol’ Vallartas.  I’m definitely looking forward to unplugging and going on a mini getaway with my hubby and babes.

    Highlights from Month 7:

    • I finally started feeding you some solids.  We’re starting with avocado first, just like we did with your big bro.  Hoping this increases your appetite for lots of yummy fruits and veggies like it did for Deke.  I made an intentional effort to feed him whole30 during his first year of life and I really think this is why he loves his fruits and veggies.
    • Your hair is growing quite quickly!  Even if it’s not all grown back by your 1st birthday, I’m ok with it because you’re still my beautiful little babe and no one can rock it like you do.  G.I Jane anyone??
    • You’re on all fours, rocking back and forth/army crawling.  Seriously?!
    • You’re becoming more vocal and saying “bba bba bba!”
    • You celebrated your first Easter with our ANCC family.
    • We got to shower Auntie Jeewon & Uncle Jason before your buddy, baby Yoo arrives~

    xo,

Five years ago today I led my very first wedding rehearsal.  There’s been many blessings and lots of lessons learned, but my journey has brought me here and I wouldn’t have it any other way~  Jane Events is officially five and I’m so thrilled to share something special I’ve been working on.

If there is anything I’ve learned from planning my own wedding, plus five humble years of marriage + raising 2 babes is that it truly takes a village.  I’m so blessed to have community—new and old, near and far, who will share in my joy and success, as well as encourage me in my failures.  The friendships that reach from CA to WA are ones that I cherish dearly and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without these people in my life.

Dear friends, your wedding is not the culmination of your love story.  Rather, it is just the beginning.  For all you newly engaged couples, I hope you’ll be inspired by our “Will you be my bridesmaid?” photo shoot, captured by the incredibly talented and beautiful, Nina of Love & Lemonade.  My heart is that you would not get caught up in solely creating a Pinterest worthy wedding, but rather that you would be moved to take time in honoring those special people and friendships that surround you as you prepare for your big day.

Because of this, my heart was stirred to curate a photo shoot to celebrate friendship + community in honor of my five year anniversary with Jane Events.  I gathered up some of my favorite wedding vendors to get together for some much needed girl time surrounded by beautiful blooms, desserts, and drinks (a nod to a few of my favorite things~).  Fun fact: Nina just eloped to the love of her life, so please send her some love!!  She also happens to be the photog who shot my very first couple’s wedding, as well as my family session for Deacon’s 1st birthday, so it was super meaningful for me to have her come on board with our project and giveaway.  I’m so honored that she did and you will see her amazing work in the days to come as I reveal the images from our shoot.

    Jane_001

Just to give you a sneak peek, I’ve rounded up a photographer, dj/mc, florist, cake, hair, bridal accessory, and a few more fun items from a specialty vendor.

Coordinator: Jane Events (20% off any package)
Photographer: Love & Lemonade (20% off portrait session or wedding collection)

I’ll be adding to this list and revealing who these vendors are + images of their beautiful work throughout next week, so stay tuned!

    GIVEAWAY
Here’s what you need to do to enter our giveaway:

    1. Send us an e-mail with the following subject line: LOVE STORY
    2. In your e-mail, please include the following:
      1. First and Last Name + Photo
      2. Wedding Date
      3. Wedding Venue
      4. Guest Count
      5. Budget
    3. Share your love story with Jane Events at hello@janeevents.com.  Please keep it under 300 words and submit by March 31, 2016 12pm PST.

I will be selecting one lucky couple based on their love story and whom I feel would connect well with Jane Events + our squad of vendors.  You must be engaged or planning to be engaged within 2016, with service availability from April 2016-April 2017.  Official contest rules will be e-mailed privately to each contestant once your entry has been submitted.  Best of luck and I can’t wait to read about you and your love story~

    Happy Six Months!
    march 3, 2016

We’re celebrating Devyn’s half birthday today!  I can’t believe she’s already 6 months old.  With Deacon, it seemed like it took forever to get to this point but with her, time is flying by.  It makes me a little sad that I don’t pay as much attention to her as I did with Deacon because well, I have two to care for now.  Major mom-guilt over here, but I’m so enjoying this time with her.  For all those that have asked, Devyn’s hair is growing back slowly but surely.  She still has a slight bald spot in the back, but apparently that’s normal?  Anyhow, it’s been so fun having another babe around and Devyn has been just the sweetest little addition to our family!

I think I’m ready for no. 3..haha jk, or am I?  Is there a point where parents feel like THIS IS IT, no more kids! because I don’t think I’m there yet.  Is this normal??  I feel like our family isn’t complete just yet.  Nonetheless, even if we’re not blessed with another babe, I’m so grateful for these little nuggets.  It hasn’t been easy watching them both at home, but I know I’ll look back and cherish the time I had with them.

    Highlights from month 6:

    • You started sleeping through the night!!  PRAISE THE LORD.  I could stop here, but you’ve been growing so much!  This has been a total game changer.
    • You are cooing and smiling so much and love playing with your feet (and eating them).
    • We’ve officially nicknamed you the “Scream Queen.”  You’re not really “screaming,” but you sure are vocal!
    • You’re starting to show interest in crawling.  During tummy time you start moving your legs as if you’re about to crawl.  Is it wrong of me to hope that you stay immobile just for a little while longer??  I’m immensely enjoying this phase!
    • We’ve had many playdates and you got to meet some new aunties and uncles!
    • Your grandparents have officially moved back to CA.  We’re so excited to have them here!!  Here’s to more date nights for mommy and daddy~

I guess it’s time for me to start planning Devyn’s 1st birthday!  I’m kinda not kidding…I already have some ideas I’m throwing around.  In the meantime, I’ve been preparing for a very exciting treat that’s been in the works with my favorite wedding vendors.  Can’t wait to reveal what it is in the coming weeks 🙂

    xo,

Hi, loves~  Happy Leap Day!!  March is just a day away, which means Spring is around the corner and it makes me want to do a happy dance.  This month marks my five year anniversary in the wedding industry and since I’ve gained a few new followers and friends, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to share a little bit about myself, my heart, and my vision in creating Jane Events.  We also have some special things in store that I can’t wait to share with y’all but until then, here’s a little glimpse of my humble little business and how it all began…

I started Jane Events because I have a huge heart to serve couples and families planning a special day in their lives, whether it be a wedding or babe’s 1st birthday bash.  While planning my own wedding in 2010, I searched high and low for a wedding coordinator who was not only affordable, but someone I could see myself getting along with and entrust my special day to.  It seemed the only options were experienced professionals who were way out of my league or rallying up trusted friends to do the job.  Luckily, I found a pretty little gal who fit the bill, but my heart felt unsettled and I questioned why it was so hard!

It was during my engagement where I rediscovered my love for the arts.  You see, I grew up in a home with parents who were talented artists themselves but for the sake of providing for our family, never pursued their passions.  Now that I’m a parent, my heart aches for them and I understand more and more the sacrifices that my parents had to make for our behalf.  It also makes me super grateful that I’m allowed to pursue my own passions, none of which I’d be able to do without the encouragement and support from the hubby~  I also have a background in Korean dance throughout all of my youth and early young adult years.  Fun fact: I actually contemplated majoring in this art to become a dance teacher.  However, God took me into a different direction as I spent some time away post college in South America, teaching English.  It was here where my heart grew for education, and my passion for the arts took second place.  Fast forward to 2011, I was enjoying life as a newlywed and employed as a teacher, but something didn’t feel right.  It wasn’t until I realized I was still pouring over wedding blogs (apparently this isn’t normal behavior after you’ve gotten married LOL) and realized my creative outlet had been plugged all this time and needed to be fulfilled!

After much encouragement from family and friends, I started taking baby steps towards designing and branding a business that has now evolved into Jane Events!  Five years ago, a sweet couple entrusted their special day into my hands.  I wish I could say I haven’t looked back since then, but it hasn’t been an easy journey.  In the summer of 2014, I was already receiving inquiries for the following year and looking to add additional assistants to my growing team.  It’s also when God called our family to move up to Seattle to partner with and serve a church plant.  Funny timing, right?  Although it was hard leaving when my business was thriving, my intent was to continue event planning in the PNW.  God had blessed our family with jobs so that we could have the freedom to serve our new church, but the reality of working as an educator and taking care of a toddler didn’t allow me to focus on planning events so my business took a backseat.  I started feeling uninspired and discouraged.  It was especially hard letting go of inquiries I was still receiving from CA, but even still I couldn’t let go of my blog as it housed so many precious memories and events.  I also secretly hoped that I would be able to serve couples and families again in the near future.

It wasn’t until the birth of my baby girl, Devyn Evangeline, where I was inspired to start journaling again.  If you’ve been keeping up with me, you know that the news of my pregnancy came at a delicate time in my life.  Those that know me well also know that it’s not the easiest thing for me to wear my heart on my sleeve.  Because of this, I only wanted to share the pretty, edited images shared with me by professional wedding photographers, and was afraid to share anything too deep or personal.  Ironically, it wasn’t until I took a break from event planning where I started using this space to journal about the personal things in life that truly mattered to me and didn’t want to take for granted.  Writing has always been an outlet for me, and it’s been such a big blessing to share not only the wonderful events I’m honored to be a part of, but my personal journey as a daughter of God, wife, and mama to two beautiful babes.  My hope is to connect with my readers and share stories of love, life, and even hardships we may face.

So to my beloved readers, thank you for following me on this adventure.  Whether you’ve been with me for the last five years or have recently started following me, thank you~  To celebrate, I’m teaming up with some of my favorite wedding vendors to do something super special for all you newly engaged ladies so start spreading the word that Jane Events is back in town with some pretty and exciting things in store~ Stay tuned for part II 😉

    Happy Five Months!
    february 3, 2016

I can’t believe it’s only been 3.5 weeks since we left Seattle, but it feels so long ago already and to be honest, sometimes I get a little weepy about it.  Although our time in Seattle may have seemed short to many, it truly became home to us and I must admit I miss the little things—our cozy little fireplace, our trips to Bellevue mall, our community at The Well, and shockingly..even the gloomy weather.  On the flip side, although it’s been taking some time transitioning back to CA life, we’ve been enjoying meeting our new community at ANCC + catching up with old friends.  David is loving being back in ministry full-time and I’ve already booked a handful of weddings for the 2016 season…how blessed are we?!  Deacon has been taking the transition a little bit harder than we anticipated.  The first couple of weeks were a challenge during his nap & bed time.  Needless to say, it forced David and myself to loosen up and be a little bit more flexible with him to meet his needs.  Sometimes I forget how little he still is and expect him to grow up now that he’s a big bro.  I also feel some mom-guilt towards Devyn because I feel like I don’t pay as much attention to her because of Deacon.  To add on to that mom-guilt, I haven’t been able to take too many pictures from our time here to document Devyn’s 5th month.  Hoping I’ll be better about this in the coming months, even with her shaved dome and all (more on this below).

    Highlights from month 5:

    • You weighed in at 15lbs. and are 26in. long at your 4 month appointment.
    • We celebrated your big bro’s 3rd birthday with family and friends.
    • We said goodbye to The Well family (insert sad face).
    • You flew like a champ from SEA to LGB.  Ate, slept, and played the whole plane ride down and didn’t make a peep.  Your big bro had a mini meltdown when a promised Pororo movie wasn’t working on the family iPad, but thank the good Lord we flew Jet Blue and had TV + a lollipop to occupy him.
    • You’ve been making a lot of progress with your sleeping habits: we transitioned you into your crib and you’ve been sleeping in 8-10 hour stretches with a dream feed in-between.
    • You’ve found your feet and love playing with them.
    • You’re rolling over from tummy to back once in a while.
    • Attended a few of your pals’ 1st birthdays and have had many playdates with your buddies.
    • Met many new aunties and uncles who love on you and your big bro at our new church!
    • Grandma and Grandpa Ahn came to visit our new home and they were absolutely smitten with you~

Found a new boba place in Pasadena that we’ve been frequenting (thanks Auntie Iris!) and Deacon got to try his very first “boba” drink (no sugar, of course).  He’s also been loving his new carseat from Auntie Hong!

Had these lovely people over for dinner the other week.  So grateful for their friendship and excited to be co-laboring together at All Nations.  Auntie Alice continues to knit these amazing animal hats~

    Happy 5!!

Everyone’s been commenting on how crazy we are for shaving Devyn’s head.  To clarify, David misunderstood my instructions that I wanted to trim Devyn’s hair to even things out and accidentally told the salon before I got there to shave off all her hair down to a 0.  So when I sat down with Devyn and the gentleman started shaving everything off, I was so in shock I didn’t know what to do or how to stop him.  It’s a good thing you can’t see my facial expression in the video that David posted. I know it may seem silly, but seeing all her hair go that was with her since birth and in my womb made me a little emotional.  Either way, I’m still recovering from this and praying hard her locks grow back by her 1st birthday…otherwise, David owes me a nice little gift 😉

February is already looking packed and we’re excited for this new season in our lives.  We humbly ask that you continue to keep our family in your prayers~
